May 2017 our member Patti Farina was honored at the District Spring Conference being named Distinguished Soroptimist


April 2017 we honored 3 deserving women with $1000 each cash grant to help further their education. To be considered a women must be head-of-household and has a financial need. 2017 Live Your Dream recipients are Brenda Villasenor (left), Erin Calvert (middle) and Edith Sandoval (right).

April 8,2017 we partnered with SI Capistrano with a "Girls Afternoon Out". In conjunction with a business expo we showed "Lunafest" short films which were made by, for and about women.


October 2016 our club hosted the Mission Viejo and Lake Forest Chamber of Commerce for a business expo and mixer


September 2016 our club participated with the City of Lake Forest in celebrating their 25th anniversary


Marck 2016 our club honored Penny Kapata as our Live Your Dream Award winner


February 2016, our club was honored to host the Soroptimist Winter District Meeting.



January 2016 over 50 people from our community helped us make over 80 fleece blankets. These blankets will be donated to South County Outreach, Breast Cancer Solutions, Motel Kids and families from Camp Pendelton.



In October 2015 our club hosted the Lake Forest Chamber of Commerce at the Beach & Tennis Club, besides a mix & mingle we had a business expo.

May 27, 2015

Soroptimist International of Saddleback Valley held their awards celebration May 27, 2015 scholarships were given to four head-of-household women to further their education and one high school girl honoring her volunteer efforts in our community.

The Live Your Dream award, founded in 1972, honors women who are reclaiming their dream of a better life for themselves and their children. Heather Hilderman, of Irvine, is presently studying at Irvine Valley College with a goal of receiving her PhD in Psychology. Heather plans on working in the field that has helped her so much-domestic violence.  Claudia Beltran, of Irvine, was a “kidnap for ransom” in Columbia. Claudia is studying at Irvine Valley College with a goal of becoming an attorney dedicated “to making a difference in her community.” Yanina Fomichenko, of Irvine, and her three children were abandoned by her husband a year after moving here from Russia. She is now studying at Irvine Valley College with a goal of obtaining a BS in Management Information Systems. Jasmin Anderson, of Lake Forest, was born in Sarajevo and with the help of her grandparents survived their civil war. Jasmin is now studying at Irvine Valley College with an end goal of receiving her BA in Business Administration.

 

The Violet Richardson award honors girls who volunteer their time and energy to causes their local community a better place. Kayla Caston, of Lake Forest, has touched the lives of many through her diverse volunteer efforts.  Kayla is a volunteer soccer referee with AYSO and some of the community service projects are: gleaming vegetables for the homeless, raising turkeys for needy military families, El Toro Library Summer Reading Program, Emerald Star Project, decorating Rose Parade Floats and Lake Forest Super Stars 4H Club.


November 11, 2014

Over 40 no-sew fleece blankets were made by Soroptimist International of Saddleback Valley and members of our community. Each year SISV makes these blankets to be distributed to Emergency Police Services, families of Breast Cancer Solutions, VA Hospital in Long Beach and children of last year SISV scholarship winners.


October 8, 2014

Marion Duffy was honored by Soroptimist International of Saddleback Valley by being selected to join the Laurel Society of Soroptimist International of Americas. Laurel Society was established in 1994 to honor members who support SI programs leading social and economic empowerment of women and girls. Members of SISV chose Marion Duffy because of her exceptional service and leadership

Soroptimist International of Saddleback Valley held their awards celebration dinner May 28, scholarships were given to 3 head-of-household women to further their education and one teenager for her volunteer efforts in the community.

The Live Your Dream award honors women who are reclaiming their dreams of a better life for themselves and their families, often while overcoming enormous obstacles. Dawn Murphy is a four-time convicted felon and five years being clean and sober. She is presently studying at Irvine Valley College with a goal of receiving a master's degree in social work. Janna To has left a volatile relationship to pursue her dream career in social work. She is presently studying at Cal State Fullerton. Tara Shaghayegh moved to the United States from Iran and after unsuccessful years in our educational system dropped out of school and soon became pregnant. Once her son was born, she realized she needed to change her life. She is now studying at Irvine Valley College, pursuing her goal to become a dental hygienist.

The Violet Richardson Award honors girls who volunteer their time and energy to causes that make their local communities and the world a better place. Victoria Slaybaugh has touched the lives of many through her diverse volunteering efforts. Victoria has volunteered at the Serrano Animal and Bird Hospital, the Red Cross, Motel Kids, South County Outreach in their food pantry and taught horse back riding with her favorite charity the Lake Forest Super Stars 4H Club.

Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization working to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. May 22, 2013 

Wednesday evening, May 22, Soroptimist International of Lake Forest held their awards banquet honoring two special women. The first was Brianna Smith who won the Violet Richardson Award, which honors girls who donate their time and energy to social causes that benefit women and girls in their community. Brianna was physically attacked in school. As a result of this bullying, she created “Safe Haven,” a program designed to help other potential victims of school bullying. Certain classrooms are designated as havens where students can go if they feel threatened. Brianna also set up an accompanying website, safehavenforteens.webs.com

The second was Hope Kagoyire who won the Women’s Opportunity Award, which honors women who are reclaiming their dreams of a better life for themselves and their families. The program provides women with cash grants for education and skills training. As a Congolese refugee, Hope spent five years in a Ugandan refugee camp working as a nurse before coming to the United States. She is now pursuing her nursing degree at Irvine Valley College hoping one day to achieve her ultimate goal of becoming a medical doctor. She not only received a cash grant from Soroptimist International of Lake Forest but also won the Soroptimist Desert Coast Region grant and is now competing for the Federation grant.
